I am contemplating using two big trash cans to store water for a day, while I empty out my sump and re-drill it (about 200 gallons of water). I am hoping to line them with some kind of non toxic plastic - but I don't know what to buy.

Is there such a thing as food safe trash bag? Most of them seem to be lined with scented chemicals.

How about greenhouse plastic?

The other option would be to clean them and skip the liner, but, with what I am not sure.

There are food grade trash bags. But typically they are called 'liners'

I'd vote skip the liner, clean then bleach the cans and rinse with some RO water and leave to air dry. Followed by another rinse with RO/DI after fully dry

What kind of trash cans will you be using? Brutes?

i have done it many times with cheap 32gallon trash cans, only problem is, its super ease to make a hole in them. last time i needed to drain my 400 gallon tank, I ordered one of those 500 gallons pool for kids, for $70 worked really great.

Good suggestions!

I have to industrial sized plastic cans that I actually use for trash, but, god knows what has been put in them. A kiddie pool is a great idea!
