Plating vs encrusting

I have a Mummy Eye Chalice that I would like to encrust over my rock instead of plating. I have it mounted on a frag plug and on top of my rock, horizontally.

Is there anything I can do to determine whether or not it plates vs encrusts?

Once it encrust the entire rock you put it on then it will typically start plating out from there.

As long as it has something to encrust on it will encrust. Here is mine.

I’m worried that mine will cap on the right side but I can’t reposition it flat anywhere else on that rock.

They do well on sandbeds as well and glue it on a disc.
