Hi, this is my sailfin tang I just bought 2 days ago. He's in a QT. Right now very early in the morning of the third day I noticed these faint spots. Ich or Velvet...if it's velvet immediately action sometimes isn't even enough. I know this because I've had 2 Velvet outbreaks in my DT in the past. Here are pics.

I just tried to feed him and he doesn't really care to snap the pellets up like he was last night. Can Ich cause appetite loss early on? Also I'll test the water to make sure ammonia didn't get out of control.

Well guys, assuming it's Ich what's the best treatment option that I can just add to the current water so I don't have to tediously clean everything in there? I don't mind the idea of Ich management vs eradication in my DT btw

Copper will treat ich and velvet. I would feed him something better than pellets.

Or should maybe feed him well and try to keep stress at a minimal so he builds a natural immunity without chemicals...unless it gets worse than it is now?

Really don't wanna do copper unless absolutely necessary

Then hybrid TTM

You could do ich management but I would only do that if your tank is old and mature and you feed fresh and live foods. Paul has a whole book written on that.

Yeah it's mature...rock was harvested from the ocean right before I got it, during my fallow period I had an enormous population growth in copepods amphipods, etc. I also feed dead mysis to my sun coral...that meets all criteria

More than pellets or mysis although you could add oil to the pellets to make them better but that won't make them live.

LRS frozen, live white or black worms, and live clams (the kind people eat from the grocery). He hatches fresh baby brine shrimp for his mandarins and pipefish. I would give the Tang high quality nori as well.

I would follow his advise as he has been doing it for a long time. He has many articles.
