Please help my clowns!!

Started about 3days ago, i initially thought it was a bit of a bacterial infection on their fins (just a bit of milkyness on the clear part of their fins) and dosed the quarantine tank with kanaplex yesterday. It seems like it’s getting worse (fins more damaged and unsure if there’s something starting on their bodies, nothing immediately visible but when I look at them face to face I think I see a tiny bit of texture starting that is translucent/whiteish). I’m worried it’s the start of something else like brook and want to act fast

They are breathing normally, swimming normally but slight twitching occasionally and still eating but not as much today. They get excited for food then only eat a little bit

the pictures/vid don’t show it as well unfortunately but want to order meds asap and need help identifying. Also on the standard clown it’s a little hole on the lower back fin she’s always had since we got her (technically still a him)

I see what looks like bite marks and something clowns would definitely do. The larger is likely to be the more dominant and occasional squabbling in place

That’s what I was thinking too (regarding the smaller misbar) since the bigger clowns fins are intact, I’m mostly worried about the fact it looks like it’s getting worse on both of them rather than better :( but maybe one dose of kanaplex isn’t enough to make a difference yet

Antibiotics require a full course (in this case, 3 treatments, 48 hours apart) to really cure a bacterial infection......

Yes I am aware of this, I just assumed it would at least slow down the progression after the first dose but it seemed to have progressed more quickly since then. They get their second dose today so hopefully it helps

You may see a slowing/stopping of progression by the second dose, but maybe not until the third.

The issue of course is that without a sensitivity test (a culture) there is no way to really know if a given antibiotic will work or not…..

Update (with video):

The misbar’s fins are looking a little better but the standard striped one isn’t looking much different and s/he is swimming more quickly than before (but still stationary if that makes any sense?) with a bit of what I think may be slight twitching and is on a hunger strike, breathing also looks a tiny bit faster but nothing crazy and not gasping. I dosed kanaplex yesterday morning so maybe it’s just stress from the medication?

If it happens to be more than a bacterial infection, any ideas on what it may be so I can properly medicate if it comes to that? I still don’t see anything noticeable on their bodies so that’s a good sign at least!

The misbar looks better to me, but I agree, the standard is looking worse.

You could try a mild in-tank treatment with Rally Pro perhaps, tomorrow, after doing a 25% water change

I unfortunately have been having a hard time being able to see them pooping, but I’ve seen normal looking ones on the bottom of the tank

Yea that might be a good idea. Any clue of what could be going on with the standard one?

Sorry - the symptoms just are not distinct for anything that comes to my mind.....

Update:

Finished the round of kanaplex and it seemed to help a lot, the misbar’s fins are back to normal (except from being chewed up by this one). They just received the first dose of aquacure prazi-met yesterday and get another dose tomorrow

Now, the biggest thing I’m dealing with is figuring out what’s going on with this guy. I’m guessing lympho on the fins due to the stress from being medicated, but what I still can’t figure out is the grainy bits. I can only see them when looking at the fish head on, if it was velvet or brook the poor thing would be long gone by now. There is definitely more grainy bits than on the prior update. Any ideas? My only thing I can think of is ich but the other clown is fine and like I said I can only see it head on, where as in the past I could see the ich when looking at the fish’s bodies. There’s also a couple pigmentation spots on its head now?

Please help identify, I just want the poor thing to feel better :(

Sorry - I was offline for the night.

The lesions on the trailing edges of the fins do look to be Lymphocystis. That’s a viral disease that isn’t fatal and will go away in a month to six weeks without treatment.

The spots line the one you pointed out on the head could be ich, or just mucus plugs. Just watch the spots - if they begin to increase in numbers and if you can see them on the fins, you may have to use coppersafe to treat for ich.

The timing of your prazi medication, at 2 days apart, is used for live bearing flukes. Most marine flukes are egg layers and are best treated with three doses, 7 days spart.

Thank you, sorry for the notifications haha. I’m used to having multiple people reply to my posts so was trying to bump it up in the recent posts area on the home page

I’m using it to treat for internal parasites due to the stringy poop. Should I still do the dosing weekly for 3 weeks?

I’ll look out for more black dots, etc. Any ideas as far as the textured bits on the body? Is that what you mean by mucus plugs? It’s the same as what I pointed out on its head, just hard to get a picture of it on the body. I really can’t tell what it is, it looks grainy but I can’t see anything without looking at the fish face to face, I can tell there’s more of it now though. Even with using my phone light pointed at it I can’t see anything on the body when looking at it from its side
