I would be hesitant due to the PSI needed to break the seal. ATO pumps typically are very weak and dont build pressure.

In theory, you could. But there are better methods IMO. Depends in the pump. I’ve used a peristaltic pump in the past which was a bit noisy but didn’t back flow. Right now I have a Tunze and just run it into my display above a return nozzle so it drains back without a problem.
