Does anyone know if I can use a 1.5" gate valve on my drain to create a full syphon overflow drain through my 1" bulkhead? What I mean is, my All Glass brand 180G RR tank has a 3/4" and 1" hole on each side in the overflow. I was running a durso system but it's just too loud with the amount of air and bubbles it pulls down to the sump. I already have it plumbed with 1.5" below the bulkhead, and was hoping I could just put the ones I already have in. Is there any issue with the size changing up from 1" to 1.5"? I assume it would still create a syphon since the smallest point will be at the gate valve.

Thanks,
Jaimie

As long as you can fine tune it. It might be hard though as it will not take much movement to change the flow when you are at the low end of possible flow.
