OK, probably a dumb question, but I get the impression that people build their own aquariums out of plywood. Is there a good read as to how this is properly/safely/sanely done? I doubt I have the skill, tools, or courage to do it but it is intriguing.

Yes you can build tanks out of plywood. I have two displays a 480 gallon reef tank and a 720gallon big fish tank both are made out of plywood. The video series from The King of DIY was one of my sources for my plywood build. There are a lot of articles out there so I did some of my own changes to this design. Yes it can be done safely if you utilize the right methods. I did find out that my 36" tall plywood tank needed to get extra bracing when it was test filled as it started to bow from the water pressure. The plywood tanks I built have been running now for over 2 years now. I will admit when I eventually build a new system it will likely be another DIY tank.

Companies did it for years. Marine grade ply with a sealed front panel. Was real common in the 80s
