Here’s another angle to explore

What events occur that rock and sand unbind ?
I believe bottoming out can cause that but if you don’t bottom out then why?

Lower pH in the sand.

Just the fact the water column is lower than rock/sand will unbind some.
So, does the rock / sand have a max limit it can absorb ?
I see some of the tanks with high po4 are high but stable
As I said , I want an intervention number and that’s .5
Could it go higher ? Who knows ??

I experimented with mine thinking the rocks would reach a phosphate equilibrium point with maxed out binding and controlled leaching back and my phosphate would settle in a specific range. This did not happen for me. It just kept steadily rising. Now dosing LC eventually drains all the phosphate out of the rocks and my number would be low and controlled again for many months until the rocks get saturated again.

Seems like my situation will be the same
Thanks very much , I’m more prepared now

If that isn't a testing error that is extreme, did you stop the phyto?

You need something to absorb the phosphate from the water - sand, gfo, Phosguard - then the rock and sand will leach it back out into the water. Then you absorb that. Then it unbinds more. Over and over and over. Until the rock levels are significantly lower, and a new lower equilibrium is created. Controlled feeding important also so you don’t undo your hard work. This process can take weeks or months

You could get an algae scrubber and it will work for you safely, 18 hours a day, and there’s no media to replace. Just toss algae every 10 days

You could get a reactor and dump in rowaphos and replace it every few days.

You could try stopping phyto for a week or two to see the impact
