I was browsing around earlier and came across this setup for growing pods and was curious if anyone had seen it or built anything similar. To me it just looks like the scrubbers that you can buy at Walmart for liquid bath soap. Seems like it would work as it would have tons of little crevices for small fauna to live.

What do you guys think? Anyone doing anything similar?

Yea that's what I was thinking. I am curious if it would work. Also if there is anything that could leach out in the tank from this.

It is a hybrid of those bath things and a sponge fliter. Not hard to make if you are handy brings detrius straight to the pods. I find amphipods like them the best. They do need to be cleaned or will contribute to nitrate.

Did anyone buy one of these yet? I just came across these too and i can see how it would benefit pods. It looks simple enough to mame though, what is the small pipe coming out of the top of the white pvc pipe? And is the pvc pipe just something for that material to attach to with a base on it? Anyone have a review of this product?

I didn't buy one. I am not sure what the purpose of the pipe is. Maybe they suggest flowing water through it so things don't get stale or something. It might just be there to keep the scrubbers from floating off the pipe as well.

I bought a bath spongie thing from walmart. 99 cents. It does the trick. :-)

Thats why I asked what the pipes are for, figured I could just make one? How do you like it? does it work? Do you just have it sitting in your sump somewhere?

Yeah. I just have it in the sump. I put it in about 2 weeks ago, so it's too soon to say for sure, but IME pods will populate anything that is porous.
