Poison Dart Frogs!

Hi guys, I did a quick search and didn't see a specific thread, but did see a number of people who keep frogs. I just started my first vivarium with two tincs.

A few questions that seem to have separate camps on (not unlike sw tanks, lol)

Do you use isopods?
Do I want to see water in the clay layer? Like is my tank too dry if I don't see any sitting water down there?

I have a viv as well. I have giant orange isopods that scavenge in the viv. I wouldn’t worry about the clay layer, as long as the viv stays moist at all times things will be fine. Overtime, water may build up, but it’s mostly there to ensure that the display doesn’t get overly wet. Here’s my tincts. More reefers should try dart frogs, it’s like land reefing but with like almost no work lol.

Awesome! Oh yeah, they were out and about the first day but have been hiding all day today. Knowing how fish acclimate, I'm not too worried. I'm expecting them to take a few weeks to get comfortable?

Here's when I was first setting it up a few years ago.The lights are cheap LED spotlights- I forget the brand but I could find out if anyone wants to know. Also there is a section of special UV transmitting plexi and fixtures for two UV T5s, but since I don't have any lizards I'm not running them> The tank is 5' x 3' x 4'

It looks like you have a big area or water in the early pics, do you still have water in the mature pics?

I'm asking if you run it through an filtration or have water plants?

I do. It is a peninsula, built of pink Styrofoam sheets, carved and epoxied. The water flows in at one end, goes around to the other end, and overflows to a sump. The water is about 10" deep. No filtration because no critters. There are plenty of plants in the water.

I have a 40 corner with 4 Leucs... fun and easy to keep... i Spray mine down about 3 times a week to keep it moist and humid...

I had some isopods, but doubt they are in there now

Very nice all. I consider this tank my biocube 32 lol. Get my fingers dirty without spending a ton, and then move up if I like it enough. I like to mess with scapes so this is quite a bit of fun.

Beautiful setup. had many of these and used to sell them at My pet Store. Had azures, vanzolinii, tinctorus, Oophaga, auratus and red dendros. Hardest part was escapee fruit flies in my back room and they were supposed to be wingless.

That's a neat setup.

I was thinking the same with some of my old tanks, putting them on end and building these.

I really want to get some dart frogs, but my parents say no. They’re scared by the idea of poisonous creatures in our house. I really would love vivarium though.

Captive bred dart frogs aren’t poisonous. Wild ones are because of what they eat. Just buy captive bred. Hope you get your frogs now!
