I typically have a spot picked out prior to bringing anything home. My DT has gotten pretty limited on free space so although I can be an impulse buyer I try to only select new coral based on the spot I have in mind, along with the lighting and flow in that area. But I will rearrange them within a couple of weeks if I think a specific coral needs to be in a different spot. I have a small Elegant I place at the bottom, lowish flow that was doing just fine, but decided it may prefer a different spot and the reaction was almost instantaneous.

I dip and place on the rock
I choose the location depending on the corals lighting needs and flow
