Polyp extension, what's good?

My sps corals look like furry trees. Is this a good thing?

That's a good thing. Typically you'll see more at night due to a feeding response.

It's the opposite for me, actually, they never retract unless touched.

Mine are the classic 1/4" to 1/2" ridiculously long polyps out all night in the dark, even on non-polypy acros like red dragon, but almost no PE on anything but Millie's when the lights are on.
