This poor Tang came with the 240 FO I picked up a month ago. He was so thin you could almost see through him. He is definitely more fleshy now and it looks like some of his dorsal fin is coming back. I didn't have much hope for him surviving but he's hanging in there.

Looks like HLLE.
Clean water, low stress and above all a really good diet should heal him up.

HLLE is definitely a possibility. The only thing the guy was feeding was plain silversides. He learned to eat them but really loves the sea veggies I put in every day now.

Glad to hear it! :D

A good variety with plenty of veggies (and possibly some NLS pellets?) should have him better in no time.

Wow, poor baby. Definately HLLE showing up ALOT in this fish. Keep the steady diet of Nori going. I also like cyclopeze. it is really good for fattening up fish even though it takes alot with this one. Feed a good variety of high quality foods like Rods and you should get a good recovery. Sad that his dorsal is gone. Wonder how that happened.

I was reading about HLLE causing the dorsal to erode in yellow tangs. Though at the time the article was written they had not seen it in other tangs, that could be what's happened here.

+1 on feeding lots of veggies. Don't run carbon for a while. Feed him as much as he wants. Try some broccoli. I know it sounds odd but I've seen em eat it.

Thank you everyone for the encouragement on this guy. The fact that he has made it through the move and the first month is encouraging. On the day of the move he was what I would call in a dog - skin and bones. Now he has definitely 'gained weight'. I will keep up with the varied feeding regimen and I will keep everyone posted on his progress.

I saw an immaculate sailfin at the lfs. I asked them what they were feeding him and they said nori, some frozen foods and cichlid pellets. The pellets had beta glucan in them which boosts the immune system.

Thank you - I'll definitely check out the pellets. He does eat the Formula II Pellets that I feed in the AM.

Tang with ventral fin..jpg
The tang's ventral is growing back. I think there is some growth to the dorsal fin as well but the ventral fin is looking awesome.
