HI all,
I am very new to reefing having just gotten a 15 gallon cube set up and going. I am bitten by the bug however and already looking to plan my next tank. We probably wouldn't attempt it for about a year but I am trying to do due diligence on research. We are probably going to be looking at either a 40 breeder or 75 gallon. I have seen the Popbloom lights talked about a lot of places. I am curious about people's experience with them. Have you had good luck growing corals with them? Are they enough to dip into LPS, and possibly some easy SPS? Would 2 Rl60 on a 40 breeder or 3 on a 75 gallon work or would we need the Rl90? Are they decent quality or should we bite the bullet and go higher end?

I've been using the popbloom rl90 since January, its been growing my corals just fine, its a good light. I don't like the app at all but thats just a preference, the light itself is fine, not too blue which I don't like deep blue.

I use a 150 watt light on my 40 breeder, but if I had to go popbloom I would put 2 x rl90

What numbers are you running the Popbloom at?

I would look at the RL90 for depth penetration. I run two Rl60’s 6” above my 36”x12”x24” frag tank. Turned all of the way up, 6” above the water, I get 200 par at 6” of water depth, and 100 par at 12” water depth.

I’ve been running popploom lights for a while now, and I’ve had really solid success with both LPS and beginner-friendly SPS.
For a 40 breeder, two RI60 will be more than sufficient. They cover the tank evenly, and the PAR is plenty strong for easy SPS like Montipora and Pocillopora.
For a 75 gallon, three RI60 also works great if you don’t plan to push high-light demanding SPS heavily. If you want to keep more light-hungry SPS long-term, upgrading to RI90 is a safer pick.
Build quality is way better than many budget reef lights out there. It’s absolutely not top-tier high-end gear, but it delivers fantastic value. I don’t think you need to splurge on premium lights right off the bat, especially as you’re still learning the hobby.
