anyone ever have a Red and Purple Firefish pair up? got mine about 3 months ago, introduced them like 45 mins apart into my 55 gallon fowlr display and they have gotten along great (not shy at all either). recently i've noticed the Red Firefish displaying to the Purple, pushing up against one another, sharing the same bolt hole (which originally they did not), even saw the Red clearing a depression in the sand near the wall of the bolt hole for 30 mins one night.
from what Ive read in other forums if this behavior was seen in two fish of either species it would indicate a pair and potential spawning event. there is however little information available aside from pairing and pre-spawn behavioral observations for each species let alone any interspecific firefish interactions. anyone ever keep a mixed pair of firefish and have them show the same behaviors or even spawn? I know there are occasionally "hybrid" firefish that hit the market mixed in with shipments of either species just want to get other experience with keeping/breeding a mixed pair of Nemateleotris.
