I would love to hear some first hand experience with possum wrasses. In particular, I am considering the Tanaka's Possum Wrasse, but I assume most have similar behaviors. So what can you tell me?

Extremely peaceful and cryptic. They are visible, but rarely leave the rocks.

+1 Yes very timid so they have to have similar tank mates and I had some finicky eaters also.

They are timid and do well with peaceful tank mates and plenty of hiding spots.
This is Banjo

Do they all turn brownish like that? The Tanaka's are bright red in photos, but then, so are some of the others :)

Banjo was like a purple/lilac with gold stripes, although the do come in browns also. He was a Wetmorella nigropinnata.

There are different species, tanakas are more reddish.

I added a yellow-banded to my tank about 4 weeks ago and haven't seen it since. I have no idea if it's still in there.

One of my favorite fish, I have a yellow banded.
Was very shy when I got it but now she comes out to explore the tank as well loves to eat.
