Power heads

I was wondering if anyone has used a zoo med power sweep power head on a timer or wave maker? Do they last very long, or are they not designed for that use.

I used 2 when I first set up my reef a couple years ago really liked them...the first week....after that they'd stop in 1 place I'd take them out & clean & put them back sometimes they'd go for a minute sometimes a day now they are sitting in my "box of crap"
