Predatory Pistol Shrimp

So a few weeks ago I noticed my sand sifting starfish was missing a leg. Just cuaght my Tiger Pistol shrimp red handed trying to pull my SSSF into the den. I also heard the snapping noise.

Any thoughts on how to best catch this shrimp? I am thinking about getting that plastic cage sold at BRS to catch it. Any thoughts?

Have you tried just target feeding the pistol? May be easier than catching him.

I would with a purchased trap if possible.Last time I had to catch one it involved tearing up my display tank.It was time consuming.I do have fine substrate however.The little guy was capable of burrowing through the bed fast.It may be easier to catch one in a coarser medium.

Unless you want to tear down the whole tank that will be very hard to manually catch him, he will have a tunnel system everywhere. Use a trap.
