I recently switched from a few month old Red Sea calcium test kit to one that expires over a year from now. My measured calcium changed from 420 to something over 600! Not believing the number I tested newly mixed saltwater that's supposed to be in the 420-440 range and that tested over 500.

What could be going on here? Could there really be that much difference between test kits and is it possible my new test kit is out of whack? I've been doing these tests for 3 years and doing it consistently with what I've done in the past.

I don't like red sea kits because they expire far sooner then labeled on the kit

I don't even bother to test calcium because its so 6 times as concentrated as alk. Your corals will only be deprived if levels go below 365ppm and as long as you do water changes that will never happen

I was going by a just expired kit that was telling me 420 while the new kit came in over 600. I was dozing heavier on calcium to maintain that false 420. I’d like it to at least stay in the ballpark.
