I just got my little Betta fish and I first noticed a small piece of fin missing from her tail fin. When she swims, her tail fin also clamps down. Then, I noticed a piece missing from her bottom fin. I tried to get a picture, but it's very difficult to do. So, I started her on Kanaplex and removed any decorations that could possibly be hurting her.
It just so happened that that very same day, the Java Ferns showed up. So, now there are four Java Ferns in the tank. However, today I started noticing brown streaks on the plants. So, I'm worried there just isn't enough "food" in there for the Java Ferns. Then, I have Java moss and Water Spangles on the way. They should be arriving by next week. The Java Moss says Tuesday.

So, I need help with two things. What might be wrong with my Betta and have I addressed the issues with the Kanaplex? What plant food could I use that would be safe for the Betta fish?

Thank you all for your help.

Back when I was keeping freshwater planted tanks I used a lot of aquarium co-op fertilizers. They worked well!! As for the betta, the most important thing is keeping clean water and fins will be able to heal naturally
