Hey guys,

Today, we're looking at the Lifegard Aquatics Intellifeed Auto Fish Feeder and how to program it to keep your demanding fish fed, when you can't be home to feed them!

to keep you demanding fish fed
Hey, who you calling a demanding fish?!

Anyway, I have the apex AFS which is the same thing with an apex brain basically and I have a love hate relationship with it. On one hand, its nice if I'm on vacation and need to manually trigger a few rotations remotely. On the other hand, if I use it in a true automated fashion I inevitably see my nitrates and phosphates go through the roof. It doesn't matter how much I dial it back because pellet food is just so nutrient dense compared to the frozen food I usually feed. I avoid using this thing unless I am away for more than a day or two. I will even skip a day feeding if I know I will be back soon to avoid putting pellets in my tank. Sometimes you just have to do it though so one of these does have it's moments.

What we really need is an automated frozen feeder. That is the holy grail of auto feeders. I've seen some diy options out there, but they are overly complex and look to be unreliable. I even saw one that was a full upright freezer fridge combo with a hair dryer in the freezer portion. It was a true Rube Goldberg machine lol. There just doesn't seem to be anything good as far as auto frozen feeder options out there still.

Also, I wish there was a way to do auto nori feedings as well. I've also seem some pretty over the top diy solutions for this too. Nothing I would call reliable and low maintenance. I love the feeding part of a tank, don't get me wrong, I just travel for work and it is a chore for my wife where it is a pleasure for me. If I can make something happen automatically when I'm not around, I like to do it and save her the trouble and know that it actually got done at the same time.
