This sounds very similar to a trick in the nursery business. Snipping of tree stems result in branching. It doesn’t surprise me that this is probably the same case for coral since they are so similar. You can probably find more information about this subject by searching for it but using trees/brushes instead of coral.

Your absolutely right. I trim my pepper and tomatoes to promote more branches for a bushier more robust plant. I know cutting plants were stems form a union (exlant crotch, lol) give you the best results. I wonder if its the same with branching sps. Maybe ill try this for the next experiment if this one works.

Growing faster sps...update

Mondays will be the weekly update but had to share. Only day two and i can already see on the Digi new growth around the edge of the cut. Not much to report about sps 2,3. They all look healthy with nice color and fully extended polyps.

Sps Recipe
Daily reef additives

Everday:
1drop of np pro
1 drop of pro bio s
1 scoop of pro bio f
Every other day:
1 drop of af build
1 drop of af vitality
1 drop of af amino mix
1 full dropper of ad energy
1 scoop of af power food
Dosing pumps
Component 1: 22ml a day
Component 2: 16ml a day
Component 3: 5ml a day
Kalkwasser : 15 ml a day @ standard
saturation

No noticeable chances besides a few new polyps growing around cut area. Pics are below but dont show much

-new growth is noticable
-all corals have skinned over the cut areas
-growth has been noticed from coral branches not from cut area.
-growth is noticable faster

Orange digi-
: every branch has noticable growth
:cut area has skinned over and grown outward. Looks pointer

Purple/green acro-
:nubs with enlarged polyps have grown on existing branches suggesting the start of new branches
:cut area has skinned over and has resprouted the polyp that was cut off

Tmnt monti-
:This thing is just spreading around the cut area
:seems to be sending off points

Orange digi frag-
olyps extended but no encrusting yet

Ive been reading that snipping a bit off an sps coral can jumpstart growth. I know a frag will base out first from it trimmed area.

-Will sps corals grow and branch faster if trimmed?
-If so how much cutting is optimal or could a razor blade score be efficient?

Wow, thank you. I now feel validated in my experiment. Going to have to read more about his methods

There was an article in Coral on a lab in Hawaii that found the same thing. I've been doing similarly for a decade...sort of. Let your sps frags encrust, cut off the tips and glue nearby. Do this a few times and it doesn't look as nice, but shortly down the road you'll have a big colony.
