propagate coral using fishing line

anyone ever use the method to propagate coral using fishing line and hang frag from tank .any luck how high to set coral.

I don't see how you will keep them from tangling and numbing each other if your doing more than a couple. But its a cool idea. My fish would be smashing into the lines all day.

Anthony Calfo discussed this technique years ago in his coral farming book. Called it "suspension fragging" or something like that. The Coral reef restoration project in Florida uses it very successfully to raise acropora cervicornis frags to replant the reef with once they've grown. The technique gives excellent flow to all polyps of the coral, and all sorts of funky yet awesome growth patterns will develop.

This sounds just like Nedimyer's Coral Restoration Foundation methods down in Florida. He found that by suspending the coral frags their growth rates increased considerably.

They do this with mariculture coral. Make a floating platform in the ocean and grow or hang coral from it.

Great book i read that a couple times. A lot has changed in hobby wince it was written but still a lot of good info in there.

Here you can see Coral Restoration using their "trees" to suspend coral frags.

I thought about using the new tree style frag racks like this. Just hang them like a pvc feeder from your light hanger. Prob what i will do with my frag rack vs. Having it on the wall of the tank.

I thought about that the only problem is they touch and sting each other unless it's for just one type. I probably will still try it with a homewrecker to see the diffrence.

They touch? I havent bought the tree rack yet so idk. Ill just have to be more patient and space em out and get less frags at a time. Lol.

Yes definitely I first saw it in an aquarium farm.
