I’m sure this is buried somewhere but I couldn’t find it.

What is the proper glue to use for bonding an acrylic sheet to the plastic rim of a glass tank. Had some left over acrylic from the Fiji DIY sump kit that’s the perfect dimensions to drill, instal bulkheads and plumb the drains too.

I read that the plastic for the fish tank rim is most likely polystyrene.

Thanks in advance.

This is my current 40B sump that I did in 2019. I used caulk that I purchased from Lowes with a caulk gun. It is plastic baffles on to the glass tank. The baffles are perfect like the day it was installed.

Thank you for sharing. Looks like we’re using the same Fiji Cube DIY setup! I also used aquarium safe silicone for the baffles to the glass but the question I had was about acrylic to plastic so it’s slightly different scenario

Glad to hear how well your sump has held up!

I Glued two sheets of 1/8” ABS together with Superglue and I can’t get them apart. Even after they were exposed to saltwater spray and moisture for over a year. Also I made a Spill tray out of Acrylic Sheet. One corner wouldn’t bond, I used the thin Superglue and it bonded the corner together. Also there’s multi-pipe cement that may work.

Alright ladies and gents. Ended up talking to a retired handyman at Ace that knew all about plastics and glue he recommended this Loctite Plastic bonder and it worked like a charm. Sanded the acrylic and tank rim, cleaned with alcohol after, and followed the instructions for the Loctite product and it took instantly. Added some more acrylic for added strength. 12hrs later and it already feels extremely secure.

Water testing as we speak (baffles have been set with silicone for over 3 days now) Everything is holding. Feeling very proud and happy with this sump build :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Thank you all for taking the time to help me.
