I bought a Reef Octopus Classic 90 HOB Protein skimmer like 2-3 months ago and it worked great for like 2 months but about three weeks ago it started making a strange suction sound so I broke it down and cleaned it and set it back up and worked great for another two weeks now it's back making the same sound and was wondering if anyone can think of any problems it might have. (The sound is like it's trying to either suck up air or water and have trouble doing it) the skimmer continues to work great but the sound has me worried. Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure on this one... have you tried contacting Reef Octopus directly?

Pull off the venturi and see if the venturi hole is getting clogged from salt creep or calc. This is pretty standard on skimmers and usually needs to be cleaned every few weeks.

I believe you will find this to be true. I will suggest a tip I do some times to avoid breaking down having to pull the Venturi. Get a container that will hold about 2 to 4 cups and fill with RO/DI and get some tubing that will fit on the Silencer nipple, attach the tube and put the other end in the container with the RO water. It should suck it in and the RO water should clean any salt build up and start working like new.
