Looking for input on an idea I’ve been using.
My nutrients are usually high and the fleece roller, skimmer, and reactors are all working overtime.
Today I overloaded the skimmer and took the overflow out when doing a water change. Added water back normally downstream.
Are there any problems that you can think of with this?
I am honestly trying to reduce feeding, but auto feeders are so helpful to a busy life.
Thanks

Did it affect the salinity?

No, I replaced the over skim with saltwater, just like a normal water change. Then once that was done, returned the skimmer to normal settings

If it works, it works!

I was concerned that the ATO would continue running during the water change and add RO water.

Lol. That is the other problem that I run into when I have tried these kind of experiments. If you have a controller, you could program a "water change mode" that includes turning off certain pumps, powerheads, ATO, etc. and then turning them back on after 30 minutes.
