Protein skimmer question??

I have a 160 reef tank with a 30 gal sump/refugium and my protein skimmer is only rated for 160 gallons. Now I realize my skimmer is working overtime right now but my question is when I buy a new one how big should I go. I plan on upgrading tanks in about a year to a 280 gallon system and the skimmer I won't is rated for 350 gallons. If I go ahead and get that skimmer and use it for my 160 will that over do it or will it be ok? Thoughts/opinions please

I think you will be fine with that skimmer upgrade. IMO you can never over skim that's just me coz I have a skimmer rated for 500g in my 150g:) I need all the help I can get with my nitrate issue. If it fits in your sump I would definitely get it.

Yuo know what they say....Go big or go Home....Same with a skimmer...And they will work overtime with a pellet reactor cause thats the export system for the nitrates its removing ...If you up grade now Dustin IMO you won't hurt a thing only help...JMO....:ranger:
