Hello everyone,

I have two questions to make sure I'm not going crazy here. Do you always have to calibrate your Protein Skimmer every so often? Also do water level has a lot to do with how the protein skimmer works?

Yes to both of your questions.
I typically have to fiddle with it after doing a full cleaning of it. Also when I put my CO2 scrubber on/offline.
And absolutely yes to the water height affecting the skimmer. Most manufacturers will tell you the range that the water height will need to be for the skimmer to work properly.

NYOS 120 is great skimmer. Mine took 2 weeks to break in (leave cup off and let overflow back into sump).

Once you get it tuned, leave it alone. Tune bubbles to bottom of skimmer cup (not top of cup). People make mistake of over tuning. Does NOT produce skimmate all the time. There will be times it’s producing skimmate and other times bio load will be low and NOT produce any skimmate - Perfectly normal.

Important to get skimmer to proper water height.

Good luck!

Nice! Just let it do it’s thing. Your bubbles look pretty clean so wouldn’t expect much skimmate.

You are going to want to tweak, but fight urge and leave alone. It will pull out skimmate when bio load builds up.
