I currently have a 12 g nano reef tank.i am running a fluidised bed bio filter and a small internal filter to collect particles in the water.also a protien skimmer which is pulling out waste.my question is could this run without the skimmer as long as reg water changes are kept up?

Yea, you don't need a skimmer on there, just watch the water params, water changes will take care of you.

Maybe a 2.5 every week instead so you are keeping consistent parameters. I will assume you have some corals? Please elaborate on livestock

Yeah got zoas mushrooms couple of small leathers and a sand anemone with a maroon clown pistol shrimp/ goby yellow tang few hermits

You just need to watch your parameters. They will tell you when you need to do a water change. Should be weekly in that tank though, I would guess around 1g per week should suffice
