I'm biased but I have a special place in my heart for the Waikiki aquarium. I volunteered as an educator there before I moved to south carolina. Well I still am I guess. I'm going back for a couple of weeks in August and am going to pick up a few shifts. It's very small but everything they have is exceptionally well done.

I've been to quite a few and generally have liked them all for one reason or another.

Shedd - been a number of times, including behind the scenes. Love it.
Monterrey - they actually had a baby great white that was nearly ready for release back into wild
Tennessee / Chattanooga - have been before and after the addition (much more marine added). Excellent aquarium. If you go to Atlanta, then make a stop here as well!
Georgia - went soon after they opened and got a behind the scenes tour before they were actually offered. Super impressive and most of the exhibits were still young. Would love to go again now.
Sydney Sea Life - it's in Darling Harbour so pretty amazing in itself. The aquarium is pretty decent.
Seattle - had a happy hour there for a fisheries conference... great venue
Tampa - smaller but a really good educational aquarium
Myrtle Beach - don't remember much about this one
Toledo zoo - the aquarium there is impressive

Probably some others I'm forgetting right now. I still haven't been to Belle Isle even though it's right in my back yard.

Only a few, key west aquarium, Marineland fl, and the Florida aquarium in tampa.

Key west was when I was very young, don’t remember much.
Marineland was a field trip type event, very educational and got to see the trainers with dolphins up close and personal
Fl aquarium was really cool, took my gf there last summer for her birthday and we did the sea trek in one of their exhibits! Definitely worth it and it was way cheaper than I expected

in terms of reef tanks, nothing beats the long island aquariums 20,000G living reef tank run by Joe Yaiullo
Never been to this aquarium but the family and I just went through the Georgia aquarium and I think, as far as a large living reef goes, it might give the long island aquarium a run for it's money. They have a huge indo pacific reef that's looks like it is close to 20k gallons. It had some large clams, SPS, LPS, softies, gorgonians, and mushrooms.

The whale sharks and manta rays were pretty cool and the main reason we went. The also had some hammerheads, which was cool as well. I live in Florida and it was still cool to see the albino alligators.

You mean this tank? I’m lucky enough to be friends with an aquarist there!

I’ve been to several aquariums in the eastern US and now the Georgia Aquarium is my favorite. I also like the clams and I took a ton of pictures of the top of the reef tank in the lagoon area.

I'm in Chicago so I go to the Shedd frequently. I've also been to one in Maui about 20 years ago. Brookfield zoo also has some aquatic exhibits and in the summer there used to be a stingray pool where you could feed and pet the rays.

The aquarium in Tampa isn't too bad. Haven't been there in several years but they had a nice frogfish display. Also I just went to the Ripley aquarium in Gatlinburg and it's not too bad either. They have a few nice displays of lionfish and weedy rhinopias. I didn't realize how big they can get

been to so many they kinda all blend together ,so hard to recall the exceptional ones...at Tampa a couple years ago had a bunch of sea dragons that were great...Long Islands reef is great...Georgia's is immense and probably the best overall....Gatlinburg was much better than expected for a Ripleys...(better than the Myrtle Beach one)....the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas has about a 3 million gallon tank that usually has huge manta rays along with the usual sharks and fish....Key West's is tiny...Miami Seaquarium old, neglected and depressing...i think they just got an eviction notice...my list of stuff i haven't mentioned in no particular order... Waikiki, Coney Island, Mystic Conn, St Lucie county Fla (just one tank but a great representation of a local Florida biome),Mote Marine, Clearwater Fla (Winter the dolphin with the prosthetic tail who has since passed)...most of the Sea Life ones are a place to amuse a kid...any number of defunct "dolphin show" places like Marineland and St Petersburg ....know i'm forgetting a couple

We had a Marineland in southern California also when I was a kid and I loved that place.
Most of the animals (at least the well-known large mammals like orcas) moved to local Sea World when it shut down.

*no point -- you just jogged my "old dude" memory
