I didnt want to move it from.my 265, but I just figured it would enjoy the extra room to swim. Looks small in the 400 though.

Does your emperor chase off other fish while it grunts??? Saw a video of one chase off a porcupine puffer grunting at it because it wanted the clam sounds like mini mortar rounds

Ive made improvements with this puffer. The cataract is the size of a eraser tip now id say. There is no pupil behind it, so maybe the cataract was the damaged pupil, not sure.

But last week it started having this swollen area on the rear. Its grown to a 2 inch by 2 inch area that is grayish in color. Someone asked if I had lionfish, which I do. A 5 inch radiata. The lion stays in the rocks for the most part, but at night when it hunts amphipods its all over the place. Could this be a lionfish sting? Have you seen this before on a puffer. And if it is a sting, will it pass on its own or do I need medication if it is infected? Puffer seems fine. No change in behavior or appetite. TIA

Sorry - I’m not sure what that is.

Seems a large reaction to be a lionfish sting, also kind of an odd location (I’d expect most stings would be towards the front of the fish).

Im for sure no expert or medic, but I had that exact same thing develop on the last porcupine puffer I tried. Swollen and gray like that. It spread to over half the body within 8 hours (the time I had worjed). Couldnt figure out what it was either, Jay also didnt know. Lost the puffer the morning of the second day, it was half puffed where that spot was and it was about 75% of the body at the time of passing. No other fish showed any signs of this or anything else. I tried treating for a bacteria infection with kanaplex but it was so fast moving. I can find pictures of the one I had if you would like, but figured I would just share that with you so you can be aware of how fast it spread with mine before I lost the puffer.

I hope you dont lose him!! Youve done so much work with him already!! I wish I knew what it was, it took mine so fast… I hope you get yours to pull through!
