Puffer Identification

Hi everyone,

I got a puffer from someone that was selling me liverock and they had no idea why kind it was. I was doing some searching and it looks like a South American long Norse but I’m not sure.

It has blue dots all over, a purplish brown body, pectoral, dorsal, and anal fins.

I also attached a picture!

Anyone who can help that would be amazing!

Kind of! No lines on the puffer whatsoever though!

I change my answer, it could be a Hawaaian White Spot, since their are no stripes. The spots look blue in the pic so knee jerk answer. ;Facepalm ;)

Looks like a Hawaiian blue spot to me. Definitely has the lines around the eyes though it’s not easily visible until you zoom in on the picture. Get some mysis and krill into him he looks starved. Puffers are also susceptible to internal parasite so he may be eating but just needs to be treated. Cool little guy congrats

I call them Tobys most of the time but it’s easier to just use the same verbiage as the op to minimize confusion.

Agreed since there are multiple species under the "Toby" label. To me all Toby means is small puffer.

I think you’ve cracked it! I agree that she is looking thin, I fed her a good amount of mysis shrimp yesterday and she happily ate. I don’t think the person was great at taking care of her so I’m doing my best to get her back up to par.

Glad she’s eating for you! For her teeth I would try feeding small snails, shrimp tails, krill, smAll hermits. Anything with a shell, I sometimes have cracked snails or hermits to help make it more inviting for the puffer. Most importantly try to get her accustomed to eating off feeding tongs (not a feeding stick) by using her favorite foods because it will help with feeding new items like snails if she puts together concept tongs = yummy food.
