I'm interested in pulsing xenas. I have a lemon peel angelfish in with a toadstool coral that he ignores. From my research I've learned that xenas grow rapidly and dwarf angels like to eat them or could eat.

My question is there anything that can control the xenas if I surrounded it with something, for example torches or hammer coral, but that would be dwarf angelfish ignored.

Originally I had plans for a pico aquarium, but that fell through. I'm curious as to what coral I can keep with a lemon peel angel. He's my buddy and I'm not getting rid of him.

in my experience, nothing will prevent xenia from spreading. my angel doesn't touch it. You can keep it at bay by isolating it on a rock away from your main structure, but it only takes one piece of xenia to come loose and lodge elsewhere to start the spread. Unless you are ok with it spreading everywhere, or ok with the effort of occasional manual pruning, xenia is not a good choice.

so to answer your lemonpeel angel question, xenia is a good choice.

I like coral and I'd like to maybe try some more. I'd love to have a hammer coral or perhaps torch coral.

Lemon peels may enjoy snacking on LPS such as hammers and torches. Every fish is different as an individual though, and keeping them well Fed can prevent such mishaps. It’s just a risk you have to be willing to take. Start with a cheap hammer or torch and see how your lemon handles it!

I feed my fish 2x a day once in the morning and once at night, plus I add baby brine once a week for my mandarin. I will occasionally add nori to the aquarium. I probably will wait on the hammer coral until I can get another nano aquarium that works.

I caution against adding Xenia into your tank. I too liked the way they looked at one time and the movement was super cool. Until a year later after adding a tiny frag, I had to get rid of 1/2 the top layer of rocks because it literally took over the tank. It is a very invasive species and at that time it was isolated on a rock. It still spread like every zombie apocalypse movie you’ve ever seen.
