I mix two 5 gallon at a time and use hydor 450 in each. I also have two 450 in my 32 bio cube so when I have to clean then I just switch out with ones I use for water mixing and clean the tank ones then use for mixing. Rinse repeat. Clean then with vinegar and water solution

Previous posters (and their posted links) are right. What you now want are the MJ series pumps by Cobalt, which are the continuation of the old Maxi-Jet pump line and still made in Italy. I have used these for years with great results.

Marineland's "Maxi-Jet" pumps are garbage.

I've been using the same Hydor to mix salt in 5 gallon buckets for 2 years now, however, when I mix larger amounts I use an active aqua pump off Amazon so I can transfer easily with a hose. The active aqua pumps are great, I've used them in aquaponic & farming exterior environments and honesty can't recall one failing in the 3 years I ran them.

Since a big percentage of people upgrade to DC pumps, a local reefer upgraded his IM SR80 and I picked up his brand new Innovative Marine 476 gph return pump for mixing/filling, straight from the brute to the DT or fuge for $20.

I have used CAP, Rio and Mag Drive pumps for mixing saltwater. All are very tough pumps and can take the harsh abuse of mixing.

I just never considered a power head to mix salt. Pumps to me do an amazing jobs for that purpose. Mix extremely fast and if you leave it in the container long enough, heats it as well (dual purpose).

I'd also serious consider Laguna pond pumps. These are the coveted Askoll motor block. Amazing pumps for the price. These are the same motor block used by Fluval in their SP line and by Royal Exclusiv in their Red Dragon A/C line. Hard to find a better submersible pump IMO.

I think this will work great for you. I have MJs that have lasted years.
