Purple Tang diet

Hi Team,

I have a approximately 2 inch baby purple tang that only eats frozen Coppepods, Nori seaweed and Algae on the live rock. Is this diet enough to meet his nutritional needs to thrive ?

He won't touch anything else. Mysis, krill, squid, clams and pallets all my other fish eat he ignores.

Also I have been adding live Coppepods to my display tank. I have about 100 pounds of live rock in the display. Is there any point I'm setting up a refuge for the purpose of increasing Coppepod population or should they be able to multiply in the display ?

That will be fine. That is a perfect diet. Don't overthink it. Since he/she is eating, it means everything is good.

As long as it is eating and not losing weight don't worry about it and just keep giving it that food. It will eventually come around and eat other foods. Naturally they graze on algae all day long. I've got one that is just now hitting the 2" mark and eats just about anything it can fit in its mouth. One pellet which almost all my fish eat is Golden Pearls 500-800 micron. It's actually suprised me how anything from a small clownfish to a 7-8" Sohol tang will go after those pellets.

Mainly herbivore. So different types of seaweed. Will also enjoy occasional meaty item. Mine also liked spirulina/mysis combo.

It should start eating other stuff as it grows. Mine eats anything I put in the tank. PE mysis is my staple but I also feed some other frozen and 4 different pellets. I never fed a lot of nori, maybe once or twice a week and mine still thrived. Been with me over 6 years and even survived a velvet outbreak.

I know someone who will eventually jump in. He only feeds live food and loves to grow his own worms. He also says that the will eat flake food but will hate you for it. All I know is that my Vlaming Tang which has grown from3 inches to about 6 will eat Colbalt Mysis Spirulina right out of my fingers. Lets the Nori soften and then licks that up about 2 square inches this twice a day. Also loves to follow me around while I clean the glass and eat all he algae I can give it
