Is 276 dollars for a 1 inch tang overpriced?
Depends on the source. I’ve seen them cheaper, and also more expensive. If you know it’s healthy I’d be happy to pay a little more than just getting the cheapest one available. It’s one of the more pricey fish in the hobby

I would pay that if it was fully QT
 
I do know that. I live in Cancun half the year where there is limited saltwater fish stores and even more tangs. And came across one
