Oh I would just break D's heart if I bought online, especially if he's offering to match prices! He would be pretty ticked at me. I'll let him know though and see if he can't source me one from those places. Thanks for the heads up!

POTO is out of stock. :(

They're often tough to find and vendors that so lots of business (online vendors) get access to them first.

Sometimes they are everywhere. From late February until early July they've been MIA except for a select few

Yea they are. That's why I don't recommend them. I would stay Away from acanthurus tangs in general if you aren't going to run the tank fallow and treat all incoming and existing fish properly with meds and ttm. They cannot be managed with ich, 99/100.

clown, carribean blue, powder blue, powder brown, Achilles, and goldrim/white cheek, are some of the harder fish to manage ich with.

A hardier acanthurus tang that can successfully manage ich on occasion is orange shoulder, sometimes Sohal tangs. They need to be established and eat lots of nori to have a shot. You'll still kill more fish than you should (of any tang genus) by attempting to manage ich but by and large acanthurus tangs will not work.

I don't recommend this practice for any tang, just saying it can be done and I've done it. Lots of experience with it. Not necessarily proud of it.
And Achilles tangs and clown tangs are very expensive, for the money you should make sure you have it right the first time.
Idk, my dream tang, and don't care what anyone says, is always gonna the Scopas. They grow up to 12" and are hardy. I can't wait till the day I can get mine no matter how long that may be.
A guy told me he had one and it would sometimes change is color to just about all black. For $20 fish that can make itself look like an $800 black tang is beautiful and impressive.

I'll just wait until D can find me one and match the online price. He'll be ticked to see that price though.... and it will be the first one I show him lol.

The shipping cost is all relative if you're buying lots of fish, especially if they're expensive.

D is how I refer to my friend that works at one of the LFS near me. We help each other out and I don't like to say his name on forums because people he works with might see.

I saw liveaquaria.com had one, and I think they have another one now, but they posted a photo on their Facebook of the first one. $2999.00, I commented asking them if the fish was literally encrusted with diamonds. They liked my comment. Lol

Very true. But I can't justify paying it if I can get online prices without the shipping cost. All I have to do is be patient.... hard I know, but I'm definitely one to save money where I can so i'll do my best.

AHHH, tangs..........
A lot can be said about tangs.
I had a trio of tangs, Tomini, Yellow and Purple.
I Rescued a Purple tang 4 years ago and he's been buddies with my other one.
Now they are the King and Queen in my 202 Diesel tank with a new Blond Naso.
As of 2 months I have in quarantine a Blue tang and Black tang and soon to come (in a week or so) a Gem tang.
I know all will be good with the Blond Naso but the Purples have to go.
They will beat the carp out of all the other new Zebrasoma.

Nah, just a good taste.
Been saving all my Fun-money for the last three months.
Lol, that's allot of fun money. $800 for a black tang and $3000 for a gem tang. Lol.
Your next step would be a peppermint angel at $20,000 -$30,000
I'd be afraid to buy anyone of those fish because I think they would check out on me right when the warranty expires. Lol

Patience is something I do not have. Good on you! My guess though is that LFS cannot honor those prices and be profitable. I've worked at LFS some of these online prices are so low because of low cost structure (brick and mortar are expensive among many other benefits) and most importantly, economies of scale.

Your right. I texted him a picture of the one for $90... he just laughed lol. I knew he would, but that's ok. His price is about the same as that $90 fish plus the shipping and I get to see it first and approve it. So really it's a pretty good deal, especially when I see them everywhere for similar prices as he's offering and you still have to pay shipping on those too.
