Hey guys I have a question about puting my tank on carpet....I have a sheet of 3/4 plywood wood that I am gonna paint.....should I cut the plywood same size as the stand or what? Thanks

The carpet will crush evenly, the problem I have found is that water under the stand (with or without the plywood) will rust the tack strips and may allow mold to grow.

Having an extra piece out front caused me to stub my toes. Putting a huge pan to contain spills underneath makes sense but it's hard to work around.

But I am clumsy and spill a lot, but wanted to put some ideas out there for your consideration. 110 is a nice size.

One tip: Assuming you have a sump - attach some 2x4/hobby board/plywood strips to the perimeter of the base, to create a basin under the footprint, then use two layers of 3-6 mil plastic sheet attached around the perimeter.

This will give you a waterproof bowl under the sump that will catch all the inevitable splashes and drips rather than have them accumulate into your carpet.

I would be hesitant to put a tank on carpet because of the inevitable spills causing mold and a smelly mess. I have a rubber matt under mine sitting on the hardwood floor that extends about a foot around the base of the tank. Why not just cut out the carpet? It would probably be unusable if you ever remove the tank in the future.

I cut out the carpet and put laminate flooring down for my tank to sit on. I'm so glad it did. I've had too many spills to count already.
