CUC Quarantine?

Heyo reefers.

While waiting for my 220g to cycle, i got myself some sponge filters, put in my sump as well as a 40g breeder for eventual quarantine down the road.

Now started reading, and apparently there is a chance for parasite/ich/velvet from CUC as well??

How can I possibly qt CUC in clean but cycled qt tank? Some of them will only eat waste and algae, no?

How many of you have qt'd their CUC and who did not? Should I introduce CUC right when ugly stage starts, but then wait 2 months before puting first fish for ich to die?

I buy my CUC from dealers who don’t put fish in their CUC holding tanks. The same applies to new corals.

The reality is though, unless the CUC came from a tank with an active disease, the risk is minimal.

I hold any CUC that I’m worried about in a small fishless tank for 30 days.

Some people just give their new CUC a good rinse in clean seawater before adding them to their main tank.

That can be an issue! Same problem with holding corals for 30 days!

Some CUC like crabs can just be fed fish food. For algae feeders, you need to either grow algae in the holding tank first, or move algae covered rocks into the tank. Sone CUC will also eat nori.

Feeding CUC is easy during QT. If you have Hermits, they will eat anything you put in that settles to the bottom. Same with other types of Crabs. Snails can go a long time without eating, but if you wanted, you could put a piece of live rock with algae on it in also. Just don't overboard with the food.
