I have read that the Pygmy Angelfish can sometimes be kept in groups of two or more. Does anyone have any experience or feedback on this?

from what ive read and seen with those fish that would have to be one heck of an aquarium, i mean at least a couple hundred gallons...they are realllly territorial among their own kind but thats just from what ive read
no personal experience here...
im sure someone with more experience will chime in soon

I know that is true of Dwarf and Large Angelfish in general, but I have read about the Pygmy specifically being more comfortable in a small group of at least 3.

I was hoping someone might have experimented with this (in a controlled setting of course) in the past. I don't want to see any Pygmy's get hurt. Ha

chuck,

I do have experience and it can be done, but tank size is key.

what size tank do you have or thinking about trying it?

My tank is only ~40 gallons. I thought about it in the beginning if I was able to locate a pair (I have seen pairs in LFS displays before). At this point I already have one in and imagine adding another body would not end positively. Still interesting to hear about experiences for future reference.

chuck,

ahhh..no...40 gallons is definitely too small to house multiple pygmy angels. the minimum tank IMO would be at least 200+ gallons.

they need a lot of room to roam AND live rock to dart in and out..they also need a seasoned tank (1yr or older) as they are NOT a candidate for new tank syndrome.

I have a good friend who has 3 Pygmy's in his 90 and dropped them in at the same time. They have been getting along for years.

great thing about this hobby, as no rule is absolute. :)
