Pyramid snails?

I just pulled one out 15 minutes ago. I don't really know if it was a pyramid or not, but I didn't want to take any chances.

You will have to wait till they form more.
If you see no damage in the tank then I doubt they are pyramids.

Why damage?

Damage meaning evidence they've been preying on snails and clams.

Yes. :-( They seem to have a preference for a particular item, sometimes right down to a specific species, but will not starve in it's absence if there's another suitable food source around town.

Can't tell from that pic. If they aren't on your clam I'd think you're ok, but then again... I thought I was ok. Best way to tell is under a microscope.

I don't have a good feeling about them. If you would like to mail a couple to me in a letter envelope, I can take pictures.

While I'm thinking about it, I'd like to add that since adding the leopard wrasses I have seen ZERO pyramid snails! They were coming out of the sand at night by the dozens but no more! I didn't find anything that said they would prey on the snails, but seems to have happened! I'm thrilled.

Opinion on these. Just noticed them tonight.

Haven't really noticed any lost snails recently moved the population is outrageous for me not to see damage. Checked the few snails I could see, nothing. Did notice one on the glass.

The second pic has atleast 6 in it. That was a most immediately after lights went off.

Last pic, almost dead Center of the pic is a single line of 3. The one on the rock was way too tiny to photograph.

The pyramid snails that people are sending me are smaaaaaaaall. It seems if I can get a decent picture with a camera, they are turning out to be rissoids. If I need to put them under the microscope, they have been pryams. Yours to me seem to be on the bigger side. That's in no way a definitive answer, but we have nothing else to really go by unless we can get a closer look.

If you wanted to stick a couple in a letter envelope, I will look at them under a 'scope for you. If you know someone who has a 'scope, see if you can slide them under.

Hmm. I might pluck some out and see if I can see them under my magnifying glass. I can't get a good look at them through the tank itself and with the lights off its even harder.

Like I said Im just noticing them tonight, gonna see what they do tomorrow during the day and keep a real close eye on my turbo snail's belly to see if they are munching away.

Im definitely down to mail you some, atleast for verification and to help further any of your picture database

I've been battling these guys for almost 6 months now. At first I would remove my trochus and turbos daily and scrub them off with a toothbrush till the population went down, then moved to weekly. 6 months later, I still see them in my tank. Is there a more natural approach?

Sorry it has been a while. Has anyone successfully removed those snails? I have those which don't concentrate on my clam but roaming all over the tank, yet I saw one or two feeding on my clam from time to time
