Okay so I just set up my quarantine tank, and it's about 2 weeks old. Do I need to let it cycle before I put some of the fishes in? I believe I have a parasite that killed just about 70% of my fishes in my primary tank. So I would like to take them out and leave the tank empty for 6 weeks. Any advice as my tank is fishless would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Reef2Reef, JTSEGA!

I find that I can get a QT up and running pretty quickly by seeding my HOB sponges with BioSpira - within a few days, if need be.

Do you know what parasite you're dealing with? The "fallow" period for Brooklynella and Velvet is six weeks, but ich would take a little longer at 76 days. Uronema would never be completely eradicated, but can usually be fought off by healthy fish (except perhaps for chromis . . . ).
