Just monitor and be sure that it doesn't grow over his gills, mouth or eyes. Start with the vitamins and healthy foods as soon as you can.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to post an update. After my last update, he had actually gotten a lot worse and I was pretty nervous but in the last two or three days it has actually cleared up a bunch. I think he'll be 100% clean pretty soon. Once he is, I'll post some nice pics. Thanks for all the advice and support!

Hi everyone. So my queen angel pretty much stopped eating last Friday. I thought it might be indigestion which some of my fish get from time to time where they don't eat for a couple days and then they are fine but today it's been a full week and still not eating. Externally he looks perfectly fine only he tends to be hiding more. Today my maintenance guy came to see if he could get him to eat. He ate two bites of plankton but my guy mentioned that he does think it's indigestion since he noticed a bump where the "butt" is. It appears to be clogged to him. Is there anything that can be done to help him pass whatever the blockage is? Would hate for him to die from this slowly.

If you can get him to eat, try feeding a peeled boiled pea. Same kind you get at the grocery store. It will help push things through.... kind of like a laxative. There are some meds that have diarrhea as a side effect, but I can't remember which one it is at the moment. Maybe somebody will remember.

x2. Could be a prolapsed rectum as well -- can you post photos?

Kanamycin i.e. Kanaplex.

But something tells me this is a rectal prolapse.

No white stringy poop.

Doesn't seem as severe as that prolapse photo but it is a possibility. Anything to be done in case it is? Or is this always fatal?

Sorry for the poor quality but he's hiding more. Doesn't really seem as severe as a prolapsed anus.

Sometimes it works itself out, sometimes it is fatal. A purse-string suture can be done on mammals, but would be very difficult to do on a fish.

@sbenus I would feed boiled green peas, nori and dose Epsom salt (1 tablespoon per 5 gals) as a laxative.

Hey everyone, I suppose I owe you an update. Good news is the fish is still alive. So the bump around the anus isn't really visible anymore. The weird thing is he is still always hiding in the caves and has never come out to eat like he did before. I figured he would've only lasted a couple of weeks assuming he hadn't eaten but he must be feeding on food that flows into the cave because he is not "skin and bones" like other fish do when they stop eating. And on the outside he seems pretty healthy. No marks or damage is visible. He seems to have good energy as well. Not sure if it's a shy phase he's going through or what but he tends to hang out close to the bottom of the tank and mainly inside the rocks. As long as it's not a life-and-death situation, I'll take it as is. Hopefully he'll regain confidence and start swimming around the top again like before

If it was my fish (probably others would not suggest this without positive ID of worms aka stringy poop) I would feed metroplex bound to food with focus and see if it perks up. At least twice a day for 10 days.

My regal angel had a bad case of intestinal worms, bad enough that it took several courses of deworming to get rid of it...and I ended up changing from metro to general cure for the last course.

Anyway, the fish would stop eating well and become reclusive and within a day or so I'd notice the stringy poop again. He also developed a swollen anus (but not prolapse)like you describe.

Again, it is just a hunch at this point without confirming that it is intestinal worms... but maybe worth a shot. If it gets to the point where the fish won't eat at all, you'd have to remove him to QT and dose the water instead to try to get him eating again.
