Question about Acanthophyllia/Meat Corals

Acathonphyllias are my favorite coral.. However I haven't had the opportunity to own one. My question is why are they so expensive? Just looking for some insight as to why they are so pricey

Not sure... it's amazing how expensive some pieces can be, of any type.

I'm guessing rarity and growth rate/ease of fragging play a role.

Because they are not able to be fragged or captively grown and I am sure collection costs play a role too.

Both of the above explanations play into it. They're beautiful corals and they can't be fragged, so they're all wild caught.

However, if you can find one that isn't doing well, and you're willing to take a risk, that might be a way to get it less expensive. I got mine at probably about 10% of what it would have gone for if healthy because it was mostly skeleton...but 6 months later, here it is.
