I want to make a stand for a 24x24x12 tank but would also like to fit a 20L as a sump. They way im thinking of building the stand, not all sides of the tank will be sitting on the frame of the stand. will this be a problem? does anyone have any ideas that would be better? i dont have any fancy CAD programs but i can try to give an idea using pain if what i said was confusing

It's not what I would typically advise doing, really you want rim of tank solid on top of frame, but for that size tank you could get away w/ it.
I would probably cap the top of your frame w/ a 2x4 laid flat so you can step it in a little, and use 3/4 ply subtop, screw and glue all together.
keep the step out to a minimum, maybe an inch all the way around.
It's not a lot of weight on that size tank, shouldn't be an issue.
