Hello I found the following tank used for a really cheap price locally. I was going to buy a smaller tank brand new from waterbox for $3400+ tax. The 150.4. This is a used 120g custom starfire tank, 48x24x24 it comes with the stand, plumbing, sump, sicce syncra 5 return pump, and bubble magnus curve 5 skimmer all for $600 delivered.

I’m saving 80% on just the tank alone. My question is do these kinds of tanks leak as much as say a used Red Sea reefer? Is this a good deal? I’m scared of it dumping 120 gallons of water in my home.

Thanks in advance.

Used tanks can be very hit or miss… I’ve had great ones and outright unusuable ones!

In this specific case:

The tank is custom, does the seller know who built it?

Is the seller the original owner/approximate tank age?

Can you get more detailed photos of the silicone seams, the plumbing layout, and what appears to be a top eurobrace?

Also, knowing the glass thickness (all sides, plus bottom pane) would help to ascertain if this tank is overbuilt, or minimum spec…

If it’s in really great shape, well built, well plumbed, well maintained, and not more than a handful of years old; you might have a decent candidate on your hands!
