Does anyone know if a 1/2 inch flow sensor such as the Neptune Systems FS50 can be used effectively if installed in the middle of a 12 inch stretch of 1/2 inch soft silicone tubing connecting a manifold to a reactor? Thanks for any input.

No reason it should not work. Flowmeters often require a certain amount of straight run pipe going into and out of the meter. It only affects the accuracy slightly and Neptune does not state any requirements so I would not worry about it. You will have to install barbs on each end to connect it to your soft tubing.
