I bought 2 MP40's for my tank....it's fairly stocked with mostly SPS...is this adequate? and if so, what power percentage would you run? Tank is 300 gallon, but probably 250 with rock and sand, total. I was using gyre's, but I didnt like those. Just curious, what someone with a larger tank would run them at, and if I should add another?

Thank You

Two mp40s I'm guessing on either ends... I would say no. U don't have enough flow for sps to be thriving though out the whole tank.... I am willing to bet my whole set up u could double it and that's only the beginning... 300gl is a lot of water.
I'm not a expert by any means, and please get a second opinion. But that's my 2 cents.

thank You. sort of what I was thinking. I also have my return flow...but yeah, I think I should probably grab 2 more. I just dont want to beat them to death, either. I do have them turned all the way up.

Maybe look at one or two of the larger Tunze powerheads for more directed flow.

I have a SPS dominant tank (still mostly small frags) which is a 110g display tank + 30g sump. I have 2 MP40s but expect to need four once the coral grow out. I run the MP40s at 85% intensity with some periods of lower intensity.

For your size tank I would look into MP60s and/or the Tunze Orca. I don’t think anything on the market now would be able to beat what the Orca’s provide in terms of random flow for a large SPS dominant tank.

Note that Tunze is in process of redesigning the Orca with projected release date initially guided as late 2026. I assume there is decent chance this gets delayed.

I have a 65g SPS tank 36x22x22" and run 2 MP40s on opposite ends running reef rest at 50%, a Nero 5 on the back right running pulse mode at 60%, an jebao MP40 knock if on the back left cranked up but not sure what % ans I have two Tunze orca 6075s sweeping the tank running at 60%. I'm going to say 2 MP40s isn't going to cut it for SPS in a tank your size. I have a 7ft 330g with 4 MP40s and I
don't think my tester SPS frags are thriving.

I don't think you can give SPS too much flow as long as it's varying and not just blasting them from one direction. I saw a video once and Jason Fox said flow is more important than light. Not sure but IMO it's at least as important as lighting .

Tank for reference.
