Question about light placement

Hello All!

Quick question regarding light placement, I installed the SMATFARM G5 on my tank today, and noticed that it’s sitting slightly above the black plastic that allows my lid to open. My main concern is the heat burning the plastic and not enough light hitting the corals(coming soon).

Does this look like an issue?

Well it is an issue but how much of one?
Doubt if it will melt the hinge.

Solutions include cutting the hinge or replacing it with a more transparent one.
One needs to be careful removing and installing since you are dealing with thin glass.
The correct size (based on glass thickness) and some lubrication.

The "clear" replacements I have gotten are stiffer than the original.
I've also just removed the hinge and sectioned it into pieces giving me clear areas.

That sounds like a great idea! However, since I originally ordered the glass top for my tank back in February and only received it a week or two ago, I'm a bit hesitant. If I try to replace the hinges and accidentally break the glass, I might be stuck waiting, who knows how long for a replacement!

I understand that light is still reaching inside the tank, I'm just not sure if it's sustainable enough for the corals.

I have a 36g Bowfont. The top I received is 36 Gallon Bow Front Aquarium Glass Top (29.2" Wide)

Any additional thoughts are welcomed!
