Hello, looking at getting an urchin or two to help with some GHA. I have calcium reactor media as my substrate, so basically large pieces of crushed coral, will an urchin be able to travel over this? Or do they need sand

I had a tuxedo urchin for a while, and the substrate was part gravel and part sand. I think you will be fine :)

They should be perfectly fine. They may try to pick some of ur substrate up though to "hide themselves" lol. Love to watch urchins in the tank. Such a great addition to any tank imo.

Urchins will be fine in any substrate they just might pick up some of the bigger pieces of the crushed coral as a lil hat!

Theyre not picky on substrate as they are with high nitrates and lack of food source
